I. ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES:
A. Upon return of an application and application
processing fee, a parent
conference will be arranged with the principal and/or school
board
representatives. The application processing fee is
non-refundable in
all circumstances.
B. Parents must purchase and read Recovering the Lost
Tools of
Learning or The Case for Classical Christian Education by
Douglas
Wilson (available in the school office) prior to the parent
conference.
C. After all required information (see below, section
F) is collected and
the parent and/or student conferences, as well as the
student
screening is completed, the file will be submitted to the
admissions
committee for consideration. Any denial of admission must be
reviewed and agreed upon by the school board. Students
entering
grades 9-12 will require a close examination of transfer
credits,
teacher recommendations, and a strong philosophical fit in
order to
ensure their preparedness for coursework at Providence, and
an
appropriate transition.
D. The school will then notify parents in writing with
a decision regarding
acceptance. If accepted for admission, the transfer of
records form
will be sent to the previous school attended for official
records.
E. Before an application can be submitted to the
admissions committee,
all of the following must be completed:
1. Parent conference
2. Student conference
(required for grades 7-12)
3. Student screening
permission form signed
4. Student screening
completed
5. Signed Family
Commitment Form
6. Pastor/Church Leader
Forms
7. Academic records,
including standardized test scores
8. School Reference Forms
9. Copy of official state
birth certificate
10. Current Immunization
certificates
11. Emergency Consent
Form (must be notarized)
12. Medical Authorization
Form
When a student is admitted, the student’s official
records and the
first month’s tuition are required to complete the admission
process.
F. Presently enrolled Providence students seeking
re-enrollment, as well
as children of active First Presbyterian Church members,
First
Presbyterian K-5 students, and siblings of currently
enrolled PCS
students will be given strong admissions consideration;
however, a
philosophical and academic fit for classical and
Christ-centered
education is necessary to be considered for admission. These
applicants, along with all other applicants, will be
reviewed by the
admissions committee. Families will be notified by letter as
to whether
a student has been approved for admission, denied admission,
or placed
in the waiting pool for consideration when an opening
becomes
available. Once the re-enrollment deadline has passed,
existing students
will be charged an additional premium for late
re-enrollment.
II. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE STUDENT:
A.
A student entering first grade must have reached the age of
six years
by September 1 of the year in which he or she would enter
Providence Christian School. A readiness screening will also
be
required.
B. If a student has successfully completed the previous
school year and
his school work and behavior compare favorably to the
comparable
grade at Providence, the student will be placed in the grade
for which
he or she is applying. However, if the student is not
adequately
prepared both academically and socially for the next
sequential grade
level, he/she may be required to repeat the previous grade
in order to
be admitted.
C. The student should understand that his parents have
delegated their
authority to the school. Therefore, he/she is subject to the
instruction
and discipline of the teachers and administrators in their
prescribed
roles at Providence Christian School.
III. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE PARENTS:
A. Parents of prospective students should have a clear
understanding of
the biblical philosophy and purpose of Providence Christian
School.
This understanding includes a willingness to have their
child exposed to
the clear teaching (not forced indoctrination) of the
school’s
Statement of Faith in various and frequent ways within the
school’s
programs.
B. Parents are required to read Recovering the Lost
Tools of Learning or
The Case for Classical Christian Education by Douglas Wilson
in order
to have a clear understanding of the classical model of
education.
C. The parents should be willing to cooperate with and
adhere to all the
written policies of Providence Christian School. This is
most important
in the area of discipline and school work standards, as well
as active
communication with the respective teacher(s) and
administration.
Students with multiple office visits for discipline issues
will be subject
to dismissal. It should be noted that some behaviors will
incur
immediate dismissal.
